(Newser) – More evidence that jobs are bringing up the rear in the economic turnaround: Employers shed 263,000 jobs in September, more than August and far more than expected, raising the unemployment rate to 9.8%. Most of the job losses came in fields such as retail, construction, and manufacturing, notes the Wall Street Journal. An estimated 7.6 million have lost work since the start of the recession in December 2007.

@robert - Thank you! That's been pointed out before, but the attention span of some folks is such that its imprint lasted all of 30 seconds, if that..

As a matter of fact, I called him "Bush" or "GW Bush". Be honest enough to accept responsibility for your actions. Don't be stupid enough to think we're stupid enough to not know why you used the middle initial.

9.8%. Remember during the pitch for the stimulus, the White House promised the bill would never let the unemployment rate surpass 8%? Now, you can dislike me for it, but I'm stating the facts. The White House says the stimulus is working--just like the surge was working, right?--well how can you measure progress by the slowing rate of joblessness? We cannot measure success by the decline of failure. Let's wait until the numbers start reversing before we get all amped up.
