(Newser) – It wasn’t long ago that the right wing hated Alex Jones. A top voice in the 9/11 Truth movement, he was repeatedly ridiculed on Fox News, and Michelle Malkin said Ron Paul’s association with him should disqualify him from the GOP primary debates. But Jones is a non-partisan paranoiac. These days he’s turned his imagination on Obama—surely the front man of the global one-world government conspiracy—and Republicans love him, writes Michelle Goldberg in the New Republic.

Jones’ influence looms large over the tea parties and Glenn Beck’s show. He even appeared on Fox News recently, touted as “The great Alex Jones!” Though sundry leftists have appeared on Jones’ radio show over the years, it’s now a destination for even mainstream Republican officeholders—one congressman recently nodded along in agreement as Jones declared that Obama wanted to put “stuff in the water to sterilize us,” and create Mao-style “youth brigades.”

We seem to have our whack jobs too. The problem is that the Republicans don't have anyone else saying anything. They have not yet admitted defeat and started try to redefine the party. I think they don't even really have any underlying philosophy. The Democrats have been more fiscally conservative than the republicans for the past 25 years. And the republicans have become more corrupt than the Democrats as well.

This guy hates the republicans. Maybe not as mnuch as the democrats, but that is primarily because the dems are in power. He is definitely moreso conservative though. Ron Paul sometimes is on the show. But it is prmarily state senartors and some other from the house of reps on the show. This article grossly overestimates this guy's influence. Reply

Gadflys. Losers. Always a step away from being down right dangerous. They exist on the fringes, on both sides. Think mark Lane from the 60's and 70's. Centuries really? Hitlers? Do you have any idea? I take this alternative history/ conspiracy very seriously (cause im crazy y'know) and know alot of people who also do and trust me most take what Alex says with a grain of salt. Im prone to say he spreads misinformation. The internet has made information freely available in bigger quantities than ever before. I say his popularity has to do with more people finding out that not everything is as it seems. (Rockefeller called it the greatest threat a few years back(the internet)) Bilderberg group exists, building 7 happened, and the British economy was bought due to fraud in the 1830s. Why are these conspiracy theories so popular? Theres too much coincidence or evidence depending on how you look at it. Also, Hitlers hatred was forged in the trenches of WW1 and Germany's oppression. Way, way more severe than an anti-establishment opportunist.

yeah a lot of under educated people like you John who lack critical thinking skills buy into your "alternative history" world view. Many of these people are boderline personality fools who always wish to find the worst in people or government. People like you were around in every society going back, yes, centuries. Had you attended college, you might have actually studied some of the early "movements" or fringe leaders spousing these "theories". There has always been those saying the world is ruled by the Trilateral Commssion or some other far fetched conspriacy organization theory. I always said the X-Flies was going to screw up a generation of border line losers like you. Yes, there was another gunman on the grassy knoill. Yes, Vietnam was fought over a wager between Howard Hughes and Onassis. Keep drinking the water without fluoride. We know you think that is a government plot too. Sad thing is I know people who I care about who buy into such things. I know someone who is convinced that the Jews were behind the attacks on the World Trade Center and called all the jewish employees so that they would stay homeon 9-11. I am trying to de-program this person now with facts and the help of sources such as Snopes but you John may be too far gone. By the way I have a political science degree from UT Austin....(first time ive ever posted that info, I hate to appear to actually HAVE credentials because these posts are supposed to be based on opinion (in my opinion lol) and I have professional bias)..also how I know so much about Alex Jones. I said nothing about the Jews, I tend to focus on information that can't be falsified. Like JFKs third to last speech or the Gulf of Tonkin (What do YOU know about Vietnam) Also change an ion in either direction from fluoride and you have rat poison (sodium fluoride) or Prozac. (Im right, check it if you want) Have a nice day and try not to regurgitate what you've been told. Check out Kenneth Burke he has some nice advice about breaking down preconceived notions.
