Portuguese police named the mother of a missing British girl a suspect in her disappearance today and are investigating whether she accidentally killed her daughter. After a marathon interview yesterday, police again questioned Kate McCann, who was booed by onlookers as she entered the precinct, the London Times reports. McCann and her husband, Gerry, have maintained their innocence.

Kate McCann’s status as an “arguida” will allow police some latitude in questioning and allow her to claim legal rights. Authorities, who say a trained dog sniffed a suspect scent on McCann, have suggested she accidentally killed her 4-year-old daughter and hid her body for a month. McCann’s lawyer said she could be charged today. (More Kate McCann stories.)
