Robin Givens on Mike Tyson, Abuse

Actress: 'There’s never any reason for a man to hit you'

Share

(Newser) – As Mike Tyson prepares for his Oprah appearance today, ex-wife Robin Givens recalls her abuse at his hands—and gives advice to anyone who is in a similar situation. “Zero tolerance,” she tells OK! “I don’t care if you read his BlackBerry, I don’t care if you yell too loud, I don’t care if you have a big mouth. There’s never any reason for a man to hit you.”

As for Tyson’s Oprah interview, “I think it’s great,” she says. “I stand here before you hoping that he owns up to what he did.” Women enduring abuse must realize “your life is in danger,” she says—but, when thinking about people like Rihanna, Givens admits she does “understand how you can go back. I do understand. The first time I was hit, I wasn’t married, and I went back.”

maybe she should have added to her "advice" "it doesn't matter if you have a deeper voice then he does" Reply

I fully realize the importance of the message, zero tolerance for domestic violence, but sheesh, hasn't Givens moved on with her life yet? She was wronged, she got her pound of flesh, and now she needs to move on with her life. Why does she still sound bitter? Reply

What Mike Tyson did was reprehensible and wrong. But colluding with Don King to manipulate Mike and take a majority of the proceeds from his many fights was also wrong. She needs to address those accusations. Reply
