Beck, Bill O'Reilly escalate Fox feud with the White House

(Newser) – Fox anchors Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly went on the attack last night against White House accusations that their network is heavily biased against the president. "They’re more worried about the war on Fox than the actual war in Afghanistan,” snorted Beck at the beginning of his show, pulling out some toy tanks and a map of Manhattan to make his point.

Bill O'Reilly accused the White House of viewing the media through the prism of NBC and CNN, which he said clearly favored Obama over John McCain last year. "There's no question that Fox News is tougher on the Obama administration than the other TV operations because we actually have some conservative commentators on this network," said O'Reilly.

Their real fans don't know the difference. Jon Stewart frequently reminds people he's a comedian, but college students still call him their most tristed news source. O'Reilly particularly presents himself as a news reporter, unless he's trying to avoid blame for something he said.

@dontlikeyou - god forbid we try and create jobs for the olympics, jobs that would have started the VERY NEXT DAY (LITERALLY!!!) not to mention the amount of tourists it brings to the host city. that would have been a HUGE amount of money. Salt Lake City is STILL reaping the benefits of the olympics, construction is still going strong there in most sectors, especially infrastructure. Too bad you keep ignoring the facts!

Fondue had a good but subtle comment. Believe it or not, Obama isn't working alone. He can visit a country, get work done in transit inside AF1, and others still help him take care of business on other issues (no president has ever worked alone). 24/7 physical presence in America isn't necessary to getting his job done. Our supreme court has ruled that Fox News can lie all it wants, legally. Fox News is like religion: the Right Wingnut crowd worships Fox and believes the lies because it makes them feel good (faith means not wanting to know the truth). I think it's coupled with America's penchant to hate authority. When the White House belonged to the Right CNN was top news dog. Now that the left has it the righties are going to do well. Beck, Limbaugh and O'Reilly all list their shows as "entertainment" on their FCC license. That's why the Supreme Court gave them the OK to say whatever vapid drivel they can come up with. What we need is a TV version of Huffpo to balance the score a bit.

1. Beck's statement is the most tired and predictable criticism of all time. I am so sick of hearing, "looks like such and such is more important to Obama than (fill in giant task that takes time to accomplish)!!" I can't believe he eats breakfast with the economy in ruins! 2. It seems conservatives believe EVERY OTHER news source, including one of the most respected in the world, the NY Times, is biased, but their Fox news is right. An analogy: there are 21 kids in the class. The teacher finds a pile of shit on the floor. One kid claims the other 20 shit on the floor, but the 20 other kids all claim it was that one kid. If Fox News is entertainment, it should say so every time, like the Colbert Report or the Daily Show with John Stewart. Both Colbert and Stewart constantly reiterate that their shows are comedy and should not be used as an actual news source. But Fox News? they have never said that their shows are entertainment, they try to pass it off as real news, not propaganda.
