(Newser) – The Obama-equals-Hitler folks have left us a puzzle. Vandals carved "I swastika Obama"—with the swastika facing the wrong way—on, of all places, the 18th hole of a country club golf course 40 miles north of Boston. It's unclear who did it or even when, but a club manager speculates that it might have been carved with a golf cleat. The Secret Service and Massachusetts police are investigating.

The daughter of the club's owner yesterday covered the desecration with a large cardboard heart. President Obama is due to appear in Boston at a fundraiser for Gov. Deval Patrick next week.

The Secret Service cannot afford to assume that they're harmless. They investigate (and I'm guessing that in this case, the "investigation" will have lasted no more than a few hours) every perceived threat, no matter how incredible) so that, if the worst happens, they never have to say, "Well, we assumed they were 'a couple of brainwashed low-life fuck-up kids who bleat anti-Obama rhetoric like the sheep they are.'

I think they used they used the symbol on purpose because they knew it meant peace. I can't speculate thier motives, but it strikes me as support for his Nobel PEACE Prize win. But Vadalizing a golf course is not a harmless prank no matter what message you are trying to send.
