She Got Fired for Being Too Fat

Model from altered ad says Ralph Lauren called her 'overweight'

Share

(Newser) – Feminists, grab your pitchforks. Filippa Hamilton, the model who appeared in a Ralph Lauren ad so ridiculously photoshopped that her waist looked smaller than her head, now says the fashion label fired her for being too fat. “They said I was overweight and I couldn’t fit in their clothes anymore,” she tells the Daily News.

The 23-year-old, who in real life has 120 pounds on her 5-10 frame, says she was outraged when she saw the ad. “I was shocked to see that super skinny girl with my face,” she says. “I think they owe American women an apology, a big apology,” she says.” Ralph Lauren’s already apologized for the ad and says it had nothing to do with the firing. The company blamed Hamilton’s dismissal on “her inability to meet the obligations under her contract.”

What a cow! (Sarcasm). Jeez, what do they want, supermodels who look like they just got back from an extended stay at Auschwitz? Reply

More evilness from the fashion industry. This industry tells us to throw away perfectly good clothes every six months because the pleat is wrong or the lapel is the wrong size and so on. It is one of the most environmentally damaging businesses on earth if you look at it that way. Any parent can tell you the frustration felt when your kid tells you she can't wear something because it is "out" or "last year". I don't want us all to end up wearing Mao suits or something like that but the industry needs to pull it back a lot. Actually, if they were to promote sweatpants and oversized sports jerseys as formal wear I could probably get along with the industry rather well. Reply
