Arianna: Biden Should Resign Over Afghanistan

If Obama ramps up troops, the VP should quit on principle

Share

(Newser) – Joe Biden should resign on principle if President Obama sends more troops to Afghanistan, writes Arianna Huffington. It's no secret Biden has "deep reservations" about ramping up the war effort there. "So if the president does decide to escalate, Biden, for the good of the country, should escalate his willingness to act on those reservations." Nothing could be "more honorable" than bucking a policy that risks American lives, money, and national security.

"Though it would be a crowning moment in a distinguished career, such an act of courage would likely be only the beginning," she writes at the Huffington Post. "Biden would then become the natural leader of the movement to wind down this disastrous war and focus on the real dangers in Pakistan."

I think that Ariana and Rush and that weirdo Beck should stop talking about who should resign. I remind Ariana that Joe was elected along with President Obama to be the Vice President of the United States. He has a right to his opinion even if it differs from that of the President. I happen to think we should fight the war in Afghanistan and win it. It is the war that we should have fought in the first place. These are the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11. We should have never gone to Iraq based on the trumped up evidence that Bush/Cheney submitted. We have squandered precious American lives and billions of dollars fighting in a country that did not attack us and did not even have the capability to threaten us. I respect Joe's opinion, I don't agree with it but I respect it. Just shut up Arianna. If you don't have anything constructive to say just shut up. Reply

I think you might be confusing Ariana Huffington with Ann Coulter. Ariana is a progressive. Though I do think this article of hers is just hype.

I wish Obama would just declare victory in Afghanistan, withdraw western forces, and hand over security to a multi-national stabilization force from Muslim nations. Good presidents, like good generals, know when to retreat. -- Eric Margolis http://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/10/11-4

Personally, I love moderation, but when it is clueless, I can't help myself. Afghanistan couldn't put together a team of skins to our shirts in 2001. We have one enemy and his name is Osama bin Laden--cause he's rich and can do things. The Taliban tolerated his ass until 9/10/01 when he used two of his idiots to kill the leader of the Northern Rebels who were trying to overrun Kabul. Why do you think he did that--that day? I can't bear to keep reading the crap on here when no bothers to learn a damn thing. You know, history is hard. Reading many books about all this stuff is hard. But, it gives you the right to voice an opinion. That 17 people think that you know what you're talking about is how we will end up screwed.
