Beck Weeps for 'Simpler America'

He recalls kinder, gentler football players

Share

(Newser) – Glenn Beck had a weepy "Kodak moment" when he shared old commercials with viewers yesterday and recalled a "simpler" America when "we used to be united." One of the oldie ads he played—a day after fellow right-wing commentator Rush Limbaugh was bounced from a Rams buyers' group amid charges of racism—featured black football star Joe Green accepting a Coke from a young boy.

"You're tired. I'm tired, too," says a choked-up Beck. "Do you remember that simpler time in America? We used to be united on some basic things. If a politician told you right now that he could make that happen again, that we could go back to those simpler times when people were together, you'd do it in a heartbeat, wouldn't you?"

Was this a Vick's moment Glenn? You and your crocodile tears of a time before some schmuck named Murdoch would pay you millions to make up lies.

It was a good commercial. In several advertising hall of fame lists. But Beck using it is as cynical as the GOP hiring Michael Steele after Obama was nominated.

Life was simpler before cable news began mucking up facts with opinion.

Oh yes, those simpler times...when we openly despised, enslaved and lynched black people, treated homosexuality as a disease, women as trinkets and got ourselves involved in some pretty dang wondrous wars. Then we made ourselves believe we were united by using soft lenses and stirring music to promote sugary drinks and fatty foods. Ahhh...good times. Reply
