Iran Bomber Kills 26, 5 Elite Guards

Ahmadinejad accuses US of involvement

Share

(AP) – A suicide bomber killed five senior commanders of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard and at least 26 others in a southeastern area that has been at the center of a simmering Sunni insurgency, the official IRNA news agency reports. The commanders were on their way to a meeting with local tribal leaders to promote Sunni-Shiite unity near Iran's border with Pakistan when an attacker with explosives around his waist blew himself up, IRNA said.

A top provincial prosecutor said a Sunni militant group called Jundallah, or Soldiers of God, claimed responsibility for the attack on the 120,000-strong Revolutionary Guard, which controls Iran's missile program. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad vowed to strike back at those behind today's attack, and accused unspecified foreigners of involvement. A State Department spokesman condemned what he called an "act of terrorism," and said reports of US involvement are "completely false."

Personally, I hope we were involved. It's about time we shook Iran up from it's terrifying complacency. And, I hiope we don't let up! Reply

Yes. Why must we always be the worlds policeman? We destroy our economy in Iraq and China sits back and reaps the profit.

Suppressing the population of Iran is rapidly becoming an impossible task. I personally know a number of Iranians and the sentiment is now clearly, "time for change, at any cost". They've had it with these clowns, most of whom aren't even Iranian. Like most over-the-top Muslims, they hail from Saudi Arabia and "spread the love" at every opportunity. They're about to lose in Iran, big time !!! Reply

I would imagine that most of the Iranians you know are ex-pats who do not necessarily share the sentiments of those in Iran. The regime has God on its side, so how can they lose? When God is on one's side, how can one lose -- by any means?
