Beyoncé Scraps Malaysia Show

Singer postpones date after criticism by conservative Muslim group

(Newser) – After controversy over her racy outfits and dance routines, Beyoncé won’t perform in Kuala Lumpur this weekend. The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, a hardline Muslim group, had protested the Oct. 25 date on her “I Am” tour, but promoters deny the postponement had anything to do with those objections. They say a new date for the show will “be announced shortly”—but Beyoncé used a similar euphemism to cancel a 2007 Malaysia gig after religious conservatives made a fuss, E! Online reports.

No loss here for either side since Beonce and her boobs do nothing for me and it has nothing to do with my religion - Amen.

One thing I've seen after working in some hardcore Muslim countries is that for a lot of the young people, it's like being in a super strict boarding school - and the harder the hardliners push down, the more subversive the counter culture becomes. Just like so many kids smoke at school and quit when they are actually allowed to. This is a generation gap - not a religious issue - and they're alienating themselves from their own people. The concerts were sold out - anyone who would have been offended I assume didn't buy a ticket. They can make the posters and public stuff low key - so this whole thing is just unnecessary. Malaysia is an incredible place - they have some seriously sophisticated night life and a brilliant culture - this is such a shame and not what they are about at all.
