Cruise Hails Scientology at Secret Confab

'We never took our eyes off prize,' actor tells faithful

(Newser) – Tom Cruise was one of the inspirational speakers at a secret Scientology confab in Britain, apparently attributing his success to his membership in the controversial organization. Cruise was joined by Katie Holmes and daughter Suri, John Tavolta and Kelly Preston, and some 4000 other guests at the hush-hush international gathering in West Sussex. "Because we never took our eyes off the prize, we stand where we are today," Cruise told the mob, Us reports. "We are in this together!" As for protesters outside, Cruise snorted: "They're squirrels."

Scientology is a cult that financially defrauds and abuses its members, charging exorbitant fees for study materials and "auditing courses" (better called "harrassment"). Scientology is tax-exempt in the United States, and the Church of Scientology (started in 1953 by whacko L Ron Hubbard) uses this as proof that it is a "bona fide religion". Be very wary of these wicked money-grabbers, y'all! Reply

Scientology is a completely worthwhile and intelligent thing to get involved in. All this "cult" voodoo is well.... voodoo !!! Scientology is all about eliminating the false beliefs and bad training you have received in the past and getting onto a winning path. That's all !!! They help people reach a state called "a clear" where you realize what is holding you back in life and then they help you change that. Scientology is really nothing more than extremely powerful and useful self-help. Calling it a "cult" is nonsense. Reply

It is a load of nonsense. It was founded on the speed-fuelled ramblings of a man with a predilection for performing coathanger abortions. He kept his money in cash in suitcases so he could skip town if the authorities became wise to his shady dealings. He used strong arm tactics to intimidate his followers. He openly professed that the best way to make a ton of money was to start a religion. He created a sham DIY lie detector that is claimed to be capable of ridding the body of 'thetans', invisible space aliens that poison the body and mind. This 'e-meter' was found to be a fraud by a US District court in the early 1970s. I could go on...suffice it to say...calling it legitimate is nonsense.
