Rush Limbaugh really outdid himself yesterday, comparing New York Times environmental reporter Andy Revkin to a terrorist and urging him to commit suicide. Well, that’s not entirely fair. Actually, Limbaugh compared all “militant environmentalists” to “the jihad guys,” who, in Limbaugh’s telling, “convince these families to strap explosives on who? Not them. On their kids. Grab your 3-year-old, grab your 4-year-old and we’re gonna strap explosives on. ... Environmentalist wackos are the same way.”
Revkin was singled out over a recent column in which he argued that contraceptives are a cheap pollution-curbing measure, since population growth is linked to global warming. But if humanity’s so bad, Limbaugh reasons, “why don’t you just go kill yourself and help the planet by dying?” Revkin says Limbaugh’s rant “might be funny, in a sad way,” if the hate mail wasn’t already pouring in—and if there weren’t millions of women who want, but can’t get, contraceptives.
