Michelle Hits 142 at Hula Hoops

But the über-fit first lady just can't do double dutch

(AP) – The president isn't the only Obama with impressive hoops prowess: Michelle managed 142 swivels of a hula hoop yesterday during a "healthy kids fair" on the White House lawn. Jumping rope double dutch? Not so much. The first lady also gave a pep talk about eating right to about 100 children and parents from local elementary schools. Obama said it's OK to eat fun stuff sometimes as long as you usually eat right.

"Look, my favorite food in the whole wide world are french fries," she said. "I love them. Dearly. Deeply. I have a good relationship with french fries and I would eat them every single day if I could. I tell my girls this: If you're getting the right foods for most of the time, then when it's time to have cake and french fries on those special occasions, then you balance it out." After the hula hoops, the first lady made three unsuccessful attempts to jump into a round of double dutch. Not giving up, she kicked off her flats and tried jumping into a single swinging rope. That didn't go much better.

@dav - I beg to differ. I don't know about the rest of the Newser crowd, but I right click on each and every summary article on the grid, regardless of content, the picture or level of importance to other things. Matter of fact, it's the reason why I opened a stupid freaking Newser/iTunes ad without realizing it was an ad. I don't even look at the headlines, most of the time. It's right click, open in new tab, right click, open in new tab. When I get to that tab, I may or may not read the summary or the full article, but I will *always* check* the comments for snark because there are some damned funny posters here at Newser and I enjoy a good laugh. What this has to do with clean water elsewhere in the world is simply a sad attempt on your part to make the article appear frivolous and/or unimportant and as if, *you* are somehow above it...yet...here you are....

My response had nothing to do with skin color. I figured you were not a Democrat and I think it's inordinately stupid to go to an article only to say "who cares" or "why is this news" etc. Your puffiness that it might be related to race, however, is...Freudian, at best.

The same reason people like watching reality shows. They like news that doesn't make them think. The person writing the story knew they could get readership by saying "Michelle Hits 142 Hula Hoops" rather than "First Lady talks about proper nutrition."
