'Nixonian' Applies to Fox, Not Obama

For starters, Tricky Dick henchman Roger Ailes runs the network

(Newser) – Pundits have been decrying the Obama administration’s “Nixonian” attack on Fox News—and that’s ridiculous, writes Joe Conason of Salon. The president’s within his rights to avoid or criticize an organization that won’t treat him fairly, and that definitely describes Fox. The network is run by former Nixon aide Roger Ailes, “the living symbol of everything negative and nasty in American politics.” And Fox repeatedly implied Obama was a terrorist.

To equate Obama’s pushback with Nixon’s assault on the press is laughable. During the Watergate investigation, Nixon pelted the Washington Post with unveiled threats, screwed with its FCC license renewals, and tried to engineer a takeover. AG John Mitchell once famously screamed at Bob Woodward that Post publisher “Katie Graham is going to get her tit caught in a big, fat wringer” if the investigation continued. Wake us when Obama’s crew does something like that.

Guava, you can keep claiming that someone's trying to silence Fox, even though it's been pointed out -- several times -- that no one has done any such thing, but all that will achieve is to make you look desperate. The pint -- no matter how frantically right wing extremists try to to portray it as such -- is not to silence dissent, it is to call attention to the fact that in the pursuit of dissent, Fox has relied on dishonesty, and therefore does not meet the definition of a "news organization". No one's silencing them; we're merely being honest about what they are -- which is more than they do for us.

Jamerican, FOX proclaims to be a news organization that's "Fair and Balanced" But any person with a fair and balanced "open mind" can see it is a right wing talk point channel when it come's to politics . Have you ever actually listen to Hannity, O-Riley, Beck? I would challenge anyone to point out anything positive that they have said positive that might be considered progressive. As an independent voter I try to keep an open mind myself, that's why when I am done watching the conservative talking points on FOX, I turn the channel to MSNBC to watch the progressive's talking points and then form my own opinion on which ever subject that is being discussed. Some time's the Fox people make more since and other times the MSNBC people make more since. Unlike most of the sheepople that are closed minded or can't think for them selves or just plain been brain washed! I try to inform myself from several different sources. Reply

@Guava - You're confusing/combining trying to discredit with trying to silence. Those are not the same thing. Yes of course Obama wants to discredit Fox, that's obvious. But Fox will continue to run programming regardless of what Obama says. He's not attempting to silence them (he hasn't called for them to shutdown). If your argument is that in discrediting Fox he will silence them, then all you're really arguing is: "No fair, Obama was able to persuade a lot of people that Fox isn't reliable and now no one will watch!"
