Moderate Democrats are nervous about the Obama administration’s efforts to marginalize tough critics like Fox News. “It’s a mistake,” Pennsylvania Rep. Jason Altmire tells Politico. “I think it’s beneath the White House to get into a tit for tat with news organizations.” And even those okay with the Fox attacks are nervous about attacking the Chamber of Commerce for its stand against global warming legislation.

“There’s no reason to gratuitously piss off all those companies,” says Virginia Rep. Jim Moran. “The Chamber isn’t an opponent.” Moderates depend on the Chamber’s seal of approval to best pro-business Republicans. Some even believe the White House’s attacks could strengthen those ties; if the Chamber is locked out of the White House, it’ll have no one else to turn to. (More Obama administration stories.)
