(Newser) – Almost a year into his presidency, Barack Obama appears to suck. He hasn’t closed Guantanamo Bay, health care reform is a debacle, and worst of all, he’s “completely whiffed” on fixing Wall Street, “siding with the financial status quo, who happen to be the bad guys,” writes Matt Taibbi. Obama and the Democrats seem to prefer their generous corporate pals to their voters. Taibbi’s solution: Get Harvard's Elizabeth Warren—she runs the Congressional Oversight Panel, which oversees the TARP bailout—to run against Obama.

Warren has plenty of credibility and truly gets the financial stuff, but she’s a genuine crusader for the little guy, outraged over the bungled bailout. “I simply cannot see her suddenly flipping and holding $2000-a-plate fundraisers with Lloyd Blankfein and Jamie Dimon.” Running against Obama in 2012 might help Republicans, but we simply need to oust the corporate butt-kissers. Obama, a willfully iconic politician, now looks like a “symbol of anti-change.”

@ Bozo, let me attempt to help you out....Oh my, what ever has Obama done....do you mean things like keeping the economy from totally collapsing? Revamping Public Education where Teachers only get a bonus if the students improve and get rid of the "No Child Left Behind b/s", perhaps taking the first steps to stop law enforcement from wasting time and resources on Pot busts...better yet beging the long process of putting a stop to Don't Ask Don't Tell? LEt me see, has he done anything? Like perhaps stepping forward to show the world that all Americans do not suffer from speach problems and America can actually have relations with other countries without threats? Well, how about the first President to actually engauge the country in the long process of reforming the Medical Industry and perhaps one day taking the USA out of #37th position and climbing to a higher position? There are tons of things not picked up by the press but the most important thing accomplished by Obama was done even before he took office, he convinced over 50% of the people that America still has hope, to me that was the greatest change I have seen in generations and he did all this in 10 months, what earth shattering things have you accomplished aside waiting on Uncle Same to save and serve you?

@bozo: Just stop this what has he done for me lately garbage. It's disingenuous. Since the day he took office, O has done a lot. It's that when he does do something, people don't notice or give him kudos. It's always followed by "Yeah, but..." ! Just yesterday i read an article on HuffPo where he signed a bill that would help those in the military. The author of the article called it historic. How many comments did it get? It's not even at 100 comments yet and was half way down the front page of HuffPo. However, let it be some nonsense like the article above and it get 4,000 comments of nonsense. In any case, I feel sorry for any politician/person who is elevated by the Left (ex. weiner, grayson, tarp lady, etc.), because it won't be long before the Left starts calling them a fraud too.

Thank you Wraith and QueenAlli- Taibbi is playing the role that Obama (and FDR before him) have asked progressives to play. We must "make him" adhere to the people's agenda. It's what he wants to do but we have to do our part. To get elected Obama had to outdo the Republicans and the Clintons at the game they are so good at-- raising funds. He did it relying on internet contributions from the grass roots voters to a much greater extent than his opponents. Now he is taking on to corporate oligopoly and he must employ strategies that most of us cannot begin to comprehend. Trust the President to do his part, and get off the computer and do something meaningful to support the progressive agenda. Even though it is probably impossible to fix all the GWB issues that need fixing, Obama could at least talk like he wants to fix them. Right now I'm disillusioned over the fact that he does seem to be in favor of the financial status quo, of secrecy in government and in just inching forward on health care reform. Talk is easy. With just a few words, Obama could make those of us who voted for him feel reassured. But he seems intent on making nice with the idiots who took us to the brink.

Actually he was sworn in on the day he won the general election. Everyone was calling on him to run this country even while W was in the office. These same people were also calling on him to DO something when the war with Russia and Georgia broke out and the one with Hamas and Israel - WHILE he was STILL running against John McCain. Prowler, when the only choice was McCain / Palin, they guys with no chance, or staying home, casting an affirmative vote "against racism" (for the purpose of countering racist votes in a nation notorious for denying African Americans citizens access to the ballot since the end of the Reconstruction era) is actually a fine motive for casting one's ballot for Obama. Had McCain been black and Obama white, that might have been enough for me to overcome my misgivings about the Republican ticket. After 8 years of rule by decree and fiat, Obama is trying to govern constitutionally. Democracy is a slow process that grinds factions against each other and finally gives us a law that congress can agree on enough and the president won't veto and the Supremes won't disallow and with, presumably, the good of the people foremost. Unfortunately, hObama is trying to do so in a culture of corruption and bidness as usual. The tide is against him and he has many in his administration who are furthering their own agendas to his detriment. His own values work against him. If he does it right, he will return us to honerable, legitimate, constitutional government, and the result won't entirely please anyone because that what democracy IS. What has happened up to now is much about trying to fix the mess Bush made of our economy and our place in the world. I believe he has let himself be overly influenced by the financial industry and that does make that area so far, look like bidness as usual. There are beginnings of consumer/labor oriented programs of late, but they may be too late, given the slowness and bitterness of the governing process in Washington as it is reported and depicted in the media. The president asked congress for a national health care plan, which is the correct way to create legislation. The corrupt machine exploded in a riot of lobbiest's quid pro quos. The process would be chaotic at best, with presumably good representatives in congress who hold the best interests of their constituents to heart, but with greed ridden, corrupt representatives in congress, the process is a minefield of rigged "demonstrations" and media hype and the good of the people is entirely lost. In foreign policy we have a mixed bag, but on the whole, openness to dialog with other countries seems to be paying off. I could go on, but I hope you get the picture... Reply

How feeble do you have to be when you resort to name calling? And, as to your claims, here are the facts, in order: 1) The 2010 includes a 4% increase in defense spending to $533 billion, less than the 6.7% increase in the total budget and less than the $584 billion the Pentagon actually wanted. 2) Yes, Obama had meetings with pharmaceutical and insurance executives that were initially undisclosed, but records of the meetings were later released. The legal status of White House guest records are also something that is unclear and open to debate at this point. And there will always be undisclosed meetings in politics, it's how things work. The difference comes in whether it becomes the SOP, as with the Bush White House. 3) The White House is preventing Congress from seeking further cost reductions from the pharmaceutical companies in the health care reform... in exchange for the companies putting up $80 billion of their own money to reduce the cost to American taxpayers. It's give and take here, prowler. I suggest you look deeper than just Fox, prowler. Wake the freak up.

This sorry excuse for a president, much less a leader, has done nothing - except go on trips, dates, appear on every stupid TV show that he can get on. I will be so glad when I can watch a TV show, or look at a magazine, without having his or his ugly wife's picture there. I am so sick of these two I could throw up. Thank God we had George Bush in the White House. I wish that he could have been elected again. Reply
