Despite holding star LaDainian Tomlinson to 25 yards on 17 carries—an embarrassing 1.5 yards per carry—Chicago dropped its season opener in San Diego, 14-3. It was largely the product of an inept and fumble-prone offense. Quarterback and perennial goat Rex Grossman tallied 145 yards, three sacks and an interception.

Though he was largely bottled up on the ground, LT still delivered both of San Diego's second-half touchdowns, one on the ground and one through the air. His 17-yard strike to tight end Antonio Gates was his seventh career touchdown pass. "It was an impressive pass," said Gates. (More Chicago Bears stories.)
