Female Saudi Journalist Gets 60 Lashes for Sex Show

During episode, man boasted of conquests

Share

(Newser) – A female Saudi journalist has been sentenced to 60 lashes for her involvement in a TV show that featured a man detailing his sexual conquests. The court also banned Rosanna Al-Yami from leaving the country for two years, sources tell CNN. She is believed to be the first Saudi journalist ever sentenced to lashes, though it's not clear she was even involved in the controversial episode.

Al-Yama works for the Lebanese Broadcasting Corp. as a show coordinator, but she apparently had no direct involvement in the episode of "A Thick Red Line" that caused all the fuss. No matter—the judge sentenced her as a "deterrence," she tells the AP. "I am too frustrated and upset to appeal the sentence," she adds. As for the man who boasted of his sex life on the show: he's currently serving a 5-year sentence.

Saudi Arabia gives me the shits. They are one of the most backwards and oppressive regimes around, the bulk of terrorist money comes from them and we all kowtow to them because they are drowning in oil. Oh, and get this: Last week they bitched that if the world reduced its oil consumption, they want compensation for loss of income. If the world should be taking a hard line against anyone...look no further. Reply

@ DarkFrancis, right on! Saudi Arabia needs to be put in it's fucking place in regards to how they are fronting the terrorist with Oil Cash and driving the economy insane because of freaking Oil and ain't it the shit that they have all this power because they happen to be sitting their ass on the freaking Oil and if the World would get it together and get alternative energies in play and tell Saudi Arabia to fuck off once and for all!

Here is a link about Saudi Arabia wanting compensation that DarkFrancis alluded to: ----------------- http://m.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/oct/17/absurd-saudi-demand/ ---------------------- It's hard to believe the sense of entitlement the government, er, royal tribe, shoulders there. They'll never get anywhere on that other than recommendations to use the money they're getting to diversify their economy AND their society while they still have oil.

and we're economically tied to these people who look so lowly at women that they'd have to stretch to call them second class citizens. I say we stop subsidizing oil companies and instead spend our tax money on electric cars... looking forward to the day we can tell them to shove their oil.
