(Newser) – At long last, PlayStation 3 owners will be able to stream Netflix movies to their TVs, the companies announced today. Xbox users have been able to do the same thing for a year, but an exclusive deal with Microsoft kept the service off the PS3 until now. But PS3 users will get a leg up when the service launches next month: While Netflix streaming via the Xbox requires a "Gold" membership, it's free to PS3 users who already have a Netflix subscription.

(NEWSER) - Despite the uproar and subscriber exodus over its pricing change, people are still making use of Netflix’s streaming service. And how. The company has announced that it streamed more than 2 billion hours of content to members during the fourth quarter, and while it wouldn’t give specific figures on how that measured up to past quarters, a spokesman tells the Wall Street Journal it’s "a high mark." Verizon Plans Netflix Rival

(NEWSER) - As if Netflix's year hasn't been tough enough. The streaming movie company may soon face a new rival in the form of a Verizon online video service, Reuters reports. The service would be available to 85 million households outside Verizon's current FIOS broadband and cable markets, and could be ready as soon as next year, insiders say. It may not, however, offer the kind of variety Netflix does: Instead, it could present movie packages along the lines of Starz Play or children's shows from a partner such as Disney. More»

Disney, ABC Shows Coming to Netflix, Amazon

New streaming deals signed with both

(NEWSER) - Finally, some good news for Netflix subscribers: More streaming content is being added thanks to an expanded deal with Disney-ABC Television Group, Mashable reports. The agreement extends the existing deal in order to introduce new shows including Alias and Switched at Birth. The caveat is, however, that Disney-ABC also signed a new deal with Amazon in order to bring shows to Amazon’s Prime streaming service—meaning Netflix's supply of exclusive content continues to dwindle.
