(Newser) – Paris Hilton may be famous for being famous, but there are at least five Twitter users with more followers than her—even though most people wouldn’t recognize them on the street. CNN runs down five of the top 200 Twitter users, each with more than 1.2 million followers, that you’ve never heard of:

  • Stefanie Michaels, @adventuregirl: A former bikini model, Michaels has been a self-styled travel journalist since the mid-1990s and now posts up to 50 tweets a day from the road.

  • John Dickerson, @jdickerson: Slate’s chief political correspondent created buzz in 2008 when he tweeted about Bill O’Reilly shoving a Barack Obama campaign aide.
  • Heather Armstrong, @dooce: She’s been a popular blogger since 2001 thanks to brutally honest posts about family life—including postpartum depression.
  • Brandon Mendelson, @BJMendelson: After unsuccessfully applying for a job at Twitter, he began gaining followers while tweeting about his cross-country trip promoting early detection of breast cancer.
  • Veronica Belmont, @Veronica: A Web starlet who has hosted a variety of geek-culture webcasts, she now tweets about gaming and technology.

Another good one is twitter.com/shitmydadsays The guy follows only one other guy (LeVar Burton) but has over 600,000 followers. And he's just a 29 year old writing down funny shit his 73 year old dad says.
