Brit Cop Fights for Life After Gay Hate Attack

Mob of Liverpool teens leaves rookie critically injured

(Newser) – A rookie British police officer is fighting for his life in a Liverpool hospital after being attacked by a gang of teens for being gay. The 22-year-old man was set upon by a dozen attackers after leaving a gay bar with his partner and their friends. He suffered multiple skull fractures after being repeatedly punched and kicked. Police have arrested three boys, ages 14 and 15, reports the Independent.

"This incident shows there are still some people who have not learted that crimes of this type are completely unacceptable," said a detective . “People who commit hate crimes can expect the full attention of the police. The offenders will learn their lesson the hard way."

Another one. Bloody hell. For those who didn't hear (there was no follow up here that I saw) the three teens suspected of murdering a gay man in central London a week or so back have been arrested. Reply

If hate crimes are on the rise in the UK, it is also noticeable that UKIP, essentially a thinly veiled version of the old British Nazi Party, has been winning more minor victories - their head was even on a well known national political debate program called "Question Time" sparking a riot outside the BBC as protester tried to make it clear, this little fascist freak was unwelcome on their airwaves. Bottom line, history tells us that during hard times, extreme parties seem to prosper as citizens lose faith in main stream politics. They over seemingly simple solutions to complex problems, they offer scapegoats and the ability to blame and avoid responsibility, and they offer populist slogans as banners. The head of the BNP is a holocaust denier and his party advocate enforced repatriation - and also has strong ties (you can see them on You tube at a conference) with the US's KKK. All this stuff comes together and I'm reminded of an old quote - "All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing." Reply
