(Newser) – Stanley Kubrick's the Shining is the best horror film ever made, say the editors of TotalSciFi.com. The film's ''expansive sets, surreal visuals, and an intense performance from Jack Nicholson add up to a film guaranteed to give viewers a sleepless night." The top 10:

  1. The Shining (1980)
  2. Rosemary's Baby (1968)
  3. The Wicker Man (1973)
  4. Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

  1. Psycho (1960)
  2. Alien (1979)
  3. Night of the Living Dead (1968)
  4. Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
  5. Halloween (1978)
  6. Jaws (1977)

The Ring. Right at the end of that, right after they show you the tape in full, right before the credits, my mom called. Scared the piss out of me. Reply

What, no Wizard of Oz ? Gotta' be horror with training wheels still upsetting kiddies for 70 years :) Also, Exorcist and Duel should be much higher up for sheer brilliance . Reply

I agree....Exorcist should be in this group. One more I would like to add (which is showing my age) is "The Thing."
