Rape Victim's Pals Rip Cops, Guards

Six now arrested in two-hour attack

(Newser) – Angry friends of a gang-rape victim yesterday blasted useless security guards and cops at their Bay Area high school who failed to prevent the two-hour attack amid a horde of curious onlookers. Some 15 young men were hanging outside the Richmond school the night of homecoming before the attack. Neither police officers nor guards employed for the dance confronted them, said one of the teens. "The assistant principal saw those men, and did nothing about it," she said at a school hearing, reports CNN.

Six young men and teens have been arrested in the attack that left the 15-year-old devout Christian honor student in critical condition. As many as 24 bystanders watched the assault and did nothing to stop it. The case has triggered such anger that the suspects have arrived in court in bullet-proof vests. "This crime was extremely callous and brutal," a deputy district attorney told the San Francisco Chronicle. "We've been getting expressions of outrage from all over the country."

Reports say these self-proclaimed defenders of a harsh form of Islam are grabbing women and girls and gang-raping them; they're also apparently demanding families hand over girls as young as 12 for marriage—arrangements that typically last a few weeks and basically turn the women into sexual slaves designed to improve fighters' morale. Calif. woman sought move to better nabe, police say

(NEWSER) - A Sacramento prison psychologist faked her own rape in the hope her husband would move them to a safer neighborhood, authorities say. Laurie Ann Martinez even allegedly cut her lip with a pin, had a friend punch her with boxing gloves, and peed her pants to make the attack seem real. Police worked hard on her case until a prison co-worker said Martinez had talked about faking a sexual assault, the AP reports. More»

(NEWSER) - A Brooklyn man has been arrested for two sex assaults on teenagers at the Occupy Wall Street camp in Zuccotti Park. One of the victims, 18, reported to police she was raped in a tent in the camp; a 17-year-old protester said she was groped in her tent. Tony Iketubosin, 26, has been charged with third-degree sex abuse in that incident, and still faces charges in the rape, police told the Wall Street Journal . Joseph Son, who played Random Task, suspected in sex offender's murder

(NEWSER) - A jailbird California actor who played Doctor Evil's henchman in an Austin Powers film is suspected of killing his sex-offender cell mate, investigators have revealed. The 50-year-old victim was serving two years for failure to register as a sex offender. He was found dead in a cell in Wasco prison he shared with Joseph Hyungmin Son, 40, who played Random Task in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Son arrived at the prison last month to begin a life sentence for the 1990 Christmas Eve rape and torture of a California woman. An investigation is continuing, reports the LA Times . More»
