NY Anchor Yanked Amid Wife-Beating Charges
Carter pleaded for the judge to dismiss the case, telling him "in the court of public opinion, if I leave here without an opinion, my career is over."   (YouTube)

A New York local news station's political anchor, Dominic Carter, was pulled off the air and placed on indefinite leave as his trial for domestic violence began yesterday. The NY1 anchor is charged with assault for allegedly beating his wife while calling her a "dumb, stupid, project bitch" at their home last year. His wife—who told police her husband hit her repeatedly in a 911 call played in court—has now recanted her story, the New York Daily News reports.

"I want everyone to know that this is a character assassination against my husband," declared Carter's wife. She testified that she was actually assaulted by a day laborer whose name she can't remember and lied to police because she was angry at her husband. Carter, who acknowledged that police had been called to their home during several other disturbances, told reporters the case is all "a big misunderstanding" and insisted he would never hit his wife.
