Spade Got $200K for Farley Ad

Controversial DirecTV commercial is a 'tribute,' reps insist

(Newser) Why did David Spade agree to the recent DirecTV ad that uses a scene from Tommy Boy, starring his departed costar Chris Farley? "To honor Chris's memory," his publicist tells the New York Postbut the $200,000 sources say Spade was paid probably didn't hurt. The commercial stirred up quite the controversy, but a DirecTV rep says Farley's family was "on board with the concept from the very beginning."

I see no harm in this. I'm sure it wasn't meant to offend Farley's legacy or family. Reply

The Harm was that Spade said he couldn't go to Farley's funeral because he couldn't see his friend in a box but he has no trouble seeing his dead friend again in a TV commercial that pays him $200,000 smackers!

the pain of seeing a friend buried can be too great for some people, as different people grieve in a different way. As time has passed, i'm sure spade has gone through the healing process that has helped him cope with the loss of his friend. In the meantime, if the opportunity arises to do a commercial that is somewhat of an homage to Farley that the family themselves have no problem with, then I say that if there is no harm, there is no foul. Spade is not made into a hypocrite for doing this advertising piece.
