Olympic Flame Arrives in Canada

It'll make cross-country trek before landing in Vancouver

Share

(Newser) – The Olympic flame touched down in Canada today, with a relay kicking off in Victoria, British Columbia, which will take it across the continent before returning it to Vancouver—less than 70 miles away—for the start of the Winter Games on Feb. 12. Its first day didn't exactly go according to plan—it arrived late from Greece, then it took several tries to light the cauldron at the provincial legislature.

Since it's the Olympic Flame, and I have first comment on Newser, I feel as if I should say something that really captures this historic moment. But I can't think of anything clever. Bummer. Tom, over to you. Reply

They are going to run from one side of Canada to the other then back, each torch lasts only 15 minutes and each torch costs $350.00....this has more than a few Canadians a wee bit pi$$ed off and they are planning protests...Non Violent of course....they are planning on Mooning the torch bearer as they come through. Good luck to the protesters and I do hope they don't catch a draft in their nether regions.........:(

I can. It's a hell of alot of money to blow and many here are not in favor of having the Olympics here in Vancouver and Whistler. Spare us. Wish it was somewhere else. The money could have been used for much more useful purposes. The politicians are the only ones who will gain. As usual and the business big whigs. Reply
