At least 66 Israeli soldiers were wounded by a Qassam rocket fired into Israeli territory from inside the Gaza strip early today. The missile struck a tent in an Israeli basic training camp in the northern Negev desert near the community of Kibbutz Zikkim, reports Ha'aretz. Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack.

It's the largest number of injuries ever caused by a Qassam rocket attack inside Israel. Similar attacks have killed 12 people in the last seven years. The assault is bound to trigger calls for a significant retaliation against Palestinian positions inside Gaza, or for cutting water, electricity and fuel supplies to the embattled region.
