(Newser) – Michael Bloomberg has won a third term tonight as New York’ mayor, outdistancing Democrat William Thompson in a race that saw the incumbent spend an estimated $100 million of his personal fortune—the largest sum in US history. Bloomberg won by nearly 20% in 2005, but early returns showed his margin around 6%.

I'm pissed at Thompson. He didn't have the money but he didn't push the Third Term issue enough to get people riled up or to lower the turn out even more. This small lead by bloomberg shows that he could have done better. Ah well, hind sight is 20/20.

Pretty sad that in a city of millions, there wasn't a better choice than Bloomberg. The fact that this guy can still buy his office says a lot about the power of money in politics.
