(Newser) – Cleveland police found another body at the home of convicted rapist Anthony Sowell, bringing the total to 11. Law enforcement also identified the first victim found as 53-year-old Tonia Carmichael, who went missing last November. "We expected the worst when these bodies starting popping up," a relative tells the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "We knew she could be one of them.” All the victims are black females, and at least five were strangled.

He was honorably discharged from the Military and was able to meet his parole requirements. That will work against his insanity plea.

I agree with Mia. He is not insane in the way that we think of insanity. Legal inanity is a different thing and that is why Jeffery Dahlmer who slept for days with corpses and kept heads in the fridge and a pot of intestines on the stove was found sane. PS when he was 15 his not so sweet mom left to be with another man. Left him alone in the house, because he didn't matter to her.

Excellent question Netstorm. As much as the media thrives on the serial killer--there aren't that many. Interesting that they usually stay within their own race. For work, I did a study and serial killers do have bad mommas. Well, they have three things--genetic problem (to be expected when mom is off-kilter) a head injury and abuse beyond your imagining. I describe it this way--Susan Smith let her baby sons float for at least twenty minutes in a car filling with water until it flipped over and their little trapped bodies drowned. She did that cause the guy she wanted didn't like children. Now, imagine if she hadn't done that--what do you think she would have been like for a mother for another 18 years? Horrible fathers make Hitler's and Stalin's--they both lost a testicle as a child to their fathers' beatings, but a horrible mother makes a serial killer. And--they all love their mothers. Bundy worshiped his till death.

No tammy. It is only borderline personality disorder with the added trait of sociopathy in mothers that is mom's fault. A Borderpath. Not many of them. So, 99% of moms are loving and great, but some--like Ed Meese's law partner and therefore Reagan's personal tax attorney marry women so wicked that their twenty year old son rapes and beats them to death with the antique Alaskan fish staff. That is so rare that you never even hear about it.

Strangely enough pas--I believe that the insane need to be put down. They can never be fixed. I oppose capital punishment because it rarely kills the insane--just the poor with bad attorneys. I've said this here before--that the truly insane and scary people rarely get caught and migrate to cities where their sociopathy is easier to hide. Unless, they've damaged to the point of sadism, most insane guys become Madoff or President, at the least they are the best car salesmen and mortgage brokers. When Greenspan tried to explain the collapse of 2008, he was trying to say that an unregulated market is the best for capitalism, but he had no idea that there were so many sociopaths using the system with no thought for the future.

"I believe that the insane need to be put down" .... Wow. Is it just the mentally ill you wish to exterminate, or do you want to 'put down' those with other diseases, too? Why stop with the insane, lets go 'put down' those with cancer too, then we can go after those with AIDS, and then leukemia. Heck, soon enough we can 'put down' every human that doesn't meet your exacting criteria. Oh wait, what happens if others wish to 'put down' sociopaths with no compassion like you? Hope you'll understand.

This story is disturbing on so many levels- firstly that a criminally insane person was released into society without being recognized as one, secondly that reports of missing women were (apparently) not thoroughly investigated by police, thirdly that the smell of decomposing corpses was not enough for someone, ANYONE, to look more closely at what might be causing it........then this evening I read an AP story in my local newspaper that said he was know to host bbqs for the neighborhood........has anyone else ever seen "Green Fried Tomatoes"? /"The secrets in the sauce-"/ (I hope I'm wrong) I do not support the death penalty but this man certainly needs to be put away for life with NO possibility of being released.
