Oprah Sets Date for Cable Launch, Show Move

Discovery Channel to media mogul: 'Move it or lose it'

Share

(Newser) – The long-awaited launch of Oprah's cable network is set for early 2011, and her syndicated talk show will move to the new Oprah Winfrey Network—and from Chicago to Los Angeles. The switch from Discovery Health Channel to OWN was originally set for mid-2009, and Discovery threatened to rescind the offer, saying it wanted her to "move it or lose it," Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood reports.

The Oprah camp is “trying to figure out what to do with her mini-city in Chicago, and which personnel she can and will move out to LA in the next six months,” Finke writes.

The Oprah camp is “trying to figure out what to do with her mini-city in Chicago, and which personnel she can and will move out to LA in the next six months,” Sounds like some redundancies are on the cards - I can't wait to see how they go about finding a new job when their current CV has only 'coffee fluffer on Oprah' written all over it. Just not a fan of the over-bloated self important staffers you find attaching themselves to successful long-running shows - like the talent of the talent somehow rubs off on them and now they too are as important as their boss - when all they do is some bullshit job (compared to the kind of work most of the world does anyway). - Or to quote a well known cynic - “I don't mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel, but I am, so that's how it comes out.”
