Teen 'Didn't Think Twice' About 911 Call in Rape

18-year-old recalls finding Calif. victim

Share

(Newser) – The 18-year-old girl who called 911 to alert authorities to the brutal gang rape of a teenager says she “didn’t even think twice” about picking up the phone. California police are calling Margarita Vargas “the Good Samaritan” for her courage—after making the call, she went to the scene of the crime. "I could tell that she had been beat up because her face was swollen," she tells CBS5. "She was naked, didn't have shoes. They just covered her up and stuff."

"I was watching a movie, and my brother-in-law came in and he told me, ‘I don't know what to do, because there is a girl back there and she has been raped, I'm scared,'" says Vargas. "I'm like, we should call the cops because that's the right thing to do."

Do NOT trust the police to keep your secret. And they DO know the telephone number from which you called. And, these calls become part of the public record. And, if broadcast on the news, the voice could be recognized. And, then there's the 'snitch' problem which is, in fact, a gigantic problem.

How many rape victims have you encountered? I'm 37 and have never met a rape survivor let alone someone just raped for 2 hours.
