Muslim Groups Condemn Hasan, Rush to Judgment

Groups preach tolerance as hate mail pours in

(Newser) – With hate mail already pouring in, Muslim American groups rushed to condemn the Fort Hood shooter today as a criminal who doesn’t represent Islam. “You wouldn't take a Christian or a Jewish soldier who did something like this and look at other Christians and Jews and say, 'Can we trust them?'” the executive director of the Muslim Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Council said of the reaction to Nidal Malik Hasan. “It’s ludicrous.”

An imam from a large Northern Virginia mosque announced that he’d be collecting donations for the shooting victims, and decried religious violence in general. “You do this, you go to hell,” he said. “You don’t go paradise.” Groups around the country have been reporting a backlash since the shooting; the Michigan branch of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee got an e-mail reading, “We know where you are, you have nowhere to hide.”

@Snarf, when you do pass on the title, I'd like to try and find it some time.

@ Jes - Can't believe I forgot the Egyptian myths. From my readings, I am fairly convinced the Jewish faith borrowed most of its tenets from the Egyptian faith. You can even look at pictures of seraphims and see resemblances in the art. Damn, now I gotta find *that* book for reference...

NET! I am not sure which book it was...I'm re-reading one that I think addressed it. I also called my ex because she might remember. We both read a lot of the same books and she may even have the one I am seeking. Some I know off the top of my head and I always thought there were only a few until I read the book I am seeking. It didn't even list them like, 1, 2, 3...it just covered them and i went back and counted them. In the meantime, here is a good and fairly short dissertation on some of that to which I am referring. This covers some of the resurrection myths specifically: http://www.2think.org/hundreds.... Off the top of my head, I know of Mithraism which has a lot of similarities. Hinduism has more than one tale of a virgin/miraculous birth. Greek mythology has some as well. Hercules was born of a virgin and was also resurrected after death. Attis is the name of a god/hero and I think he was pagan, but I could be wrong on that. Some say Attis and Tammuz are the same, but some say not. If not, Tammuz is another and so is Adonis. That's all I can think of now, but when I find THE book that listed several, I will be back or I'll catch you on another thread or let you know to return here via another thread. Thanks for the patience! I am always glad to spread this kind of stuff as I find it fascinating as hell!
