House Opens Debate on Health Care Bill

Final vote is expected sometime tonight

Share

(Newser) – It's crunch time in the House for health care reform. Representatives opened debate this morning on the monumental plan to provide universal coverage to Americans for the first time. A final vote is expected to take place tonight, maybe in the wee hours, and Nancy Pelosi continues to wheel and deal to reach her goal of 218 votes, notes the Hill. President Obama is scheduled to make a late-morning visit to help persuade fence-sitters.

I hope they get it right. All I see is too many lobbyist... too many purveyors of Fear, Uncertainty, & Doubt... too much arguing... too many pages... too few facts.

According to Huffpo there's 26 dems saying they will vote against the bill. I don't understand it. The dems have the ideals and the power but they don't have the guts. No wonder the country is messed up. Reply

the bill 1900 pages long is convoluted and to full of compromise. I am not surprised its having such a hard time getting passed. Reply

I haven't read the bill that according to this Newser is a "monumental plan to provide universal coverage to Americans for the first time", I, therefore, can't speak to merits of it, but this much I do know: "coverage" by insurance doesn't mean much, if one cannot afford the premiums, deductibles, and co-pays. I say again and again, the profit motive should play NO part, in the delivery of health care. Reply
