 FORT HOOD SHOOOTING
12

It's Not Her First Time as 'Hero'

Munley saved a fellow officer while a cop in NC

Share

(Newser) – Kimberly Munley is being hailed as a hero for bringing down the Fort Hood shooter while taking three bullets herself, and her former partner isn't a bit surprised. Shaun Appler, who worked with her years ago in North Carolina, tells the Austin American-Statesman that he began calling her "Mighty Mouse" after she leaped through the air to free him from an assailant choking him and trying to grab his gun.

"She saved my life that night," Appler says. "When I found out the female officer at Fort Hood was Kim, I wasn't surprised. Kim not only has the training, I know she was mentally prepared to know what to do when you get into that situation." He spoke to her by phone yesterday. "She is in good spirits, although she is obviously saddled with the loss of life that occurred there."

This is nice and all, but what important events are happening right now that are overshadowed by all this carnage? What stories are being ignored, or even buried? When the media outlets are all running with stories like this, stories with "legs," corporations and governments take the opportunity to do the things that they don't want to receive a lot of scrutiny. The idea is that when the carnage furor dies down, their actions will be considered old news by media editors, so they won't cover it - until the consequences come to light, and a new furor erupts. So what's happening right now that we won't find out about for a few months, when it bites us in the ass? Reply

Oh, you mean like all the REAL violence and drama taking place around the world??? Don't worry about those trivialized matters. Lone gunmen/hero stories sell much better. Besides, these stories distract from what would otherwise be a neverending barrage of reports about government and/or corporate-sponsored campaigns of murder / natural resource extraction. Can a republic be destroyed by misinformation, as it loses sight of its place in the world and its responsibility to lead it? I guess we'll see. All I know is this: our media is aiding and abetting American citizens in their becoming ignorant lemmings. It's to their advantage.

Personally I am glad she was there to stop the jerk, if he had gone further there is no telling how high the death toll and this lady deserves all the press she can get. If you were not interested one simple rule, don't click the link, few clicks then the story is dropped and some other method to make money will be posted

When I first read the title, I was hoping for an "onion-esque" summary of how she came out first place in a "rock band" tourney Reply
