Triple Mugging Rattles Central Park

One man busted, cohorts on the loose

(Newser) – An armed mugging of three men in Central Park has rattled New Yorkers who were beginning to get used to feeling safe strolling in Manhattan's famous green space. Two park strollers were accosted before dawn yesterday by a gunman and two cohorts who emptied the men's pockets. When a third man approached, he was also robbed.

The suspects ran off and the victims flagged down a passerby to call 911. One man was later arrested. "I never expected this to happen," said a park fan strolling along a walkway later yesterday. "It tells me you could get stuck up anywhere."

NYC is actually one of the safest cities, per capita, in America. The crime rate has plummeted over the past decade; you have a much greater chance of being mugged in San Francisco or Houston.

I thought this was business as usual in the Big Apple? Seriously, don't muggings happen all the time in NYC?
