Travolta: Religion Helps Us Cope

John, Kelly speak publicly for first time since Jett's tragic death

Share

(Newser) – Near-daily religious counseling has helped the family cope with the loss of Jett, say John Travolta and Kelly Preston, who spoke out for the first time since his January death. “We've been working very hard every day as a family to heal,” Travolta says, "We have our own way of doing it, and it has been helping." The family was taking part in a roundtable interview for Old Dogs, which stars 9-year-old daughter Ella Bleu, USA Today reports.

“We decided it was OK to come out and promote, to introduce her to the world and to give her a beautiful future in film,” says Travolta, who also stars in the movie along with his wife. Preston says the “outpouring of love from, really, worldwide has been extraordinary. It's been our friends, our family, our church. We partake in spiritual counseling pretty much daily.”

Mr. Travolta you're so much better than this "church" you're turning to. These people convinced you that taking your son off of his seizure medication was best for him....and he died....now you're going to turn to the SAME PEOPLE to ask for help coping? Reply

Mr and Mrs. Travolta, losing a child must be the hardest thing to happen to a person. I have compassion for your family.

@OG_travis.......I agree with you.....you find rest and peace in God. You get comfort from family and friends. His church has no God, therefore, he gets only comfort, not rest.......he'll always be wondering if he did the right thing for his son........

@doingtherightthing - I find rest and peace laying in a hammock on a beach with cold drink in hand. As the brilliant Richard Dawkins once said, 'We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.'
