Supreme Court Won't Spare Beltway Sniper

(Newser) – The Supreme Court has rejected an emergency appeal from John Allen Muhammad, also known as the Beltway sniper, clearing the way for his execution tomorrow. Muhammad’s lawyers said he needed more time to prepare his appeals. Although justices Stevens, Ginsburg, and Sotomayor questioned Virginia law for not affording convicts a year to file appeals, they found no reason to make an exception for Muhammad, the Los Angeles Times reports.

RobN, you presume the only threats to guards come from those prisoners who previously committed murder. That's flawed thinking. Guards are aware of the threat ALL prisoners pose, not just those in for life, and protect themselves against each prisoner. Just beacuse they killed before doesn't mean they shall kill again, and just because they never killed before, doesn't mean they never will. Your argument is specious.

If I was locked up in a hole 23 hours a day I'd kill somebody just to get them to execute me. I get antsy in coach on long flights.
