9/11 Families Split on New York Trial

Some welcome plotters' trial, to others it's a 'smack in the face'

(Newser) – Some see it as poetic justice—the plotters of the Sept. 11th attacks brought to justice a few blocks from the site of the Twin Towers they destroyed—and others are outraged that the terrorists will enjoy a jury trial in a court in this country, let alone this city. Families of the 9/11 victims reacted emotionally, but not with unanimity to the news that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the professed mastermind of the attacks, and four others will be tried in federal court in New York.

"Why do we have to constantly relive this?" one woman who lost a son tells the New York Times. "When do we get to be at peace? They should be hung." Others worry that the defense will get the attack plotters off on a technicality, or that they'll use the trial to grandstand. “We’re giving these monsters a forum to spew their garbage once more," says a man whose daughter died. They’ll make a circus out of it and just play it to the hilt.” But a third wants to be a witness to justice, for his son's sake. "I’ll go wherever I have to go. I want to see these guys convicted.”

Did you know one of the reasons why they chop off hands and fingers in some Arab states as punishment for serious crime? It's because the Koran says that you cannot get into heaven unless you body is in tact. So by removing some of it, you lose your chance at heaven. During India's struggle for independence - the British tied Muslims to the front of cannons and blew them to pieces to play on this fear. Just a thought.......but then another thought jut occurred to me. If this is still a commonly held belief, then how can a suicide bomber get into heaven - seems kind of contradictory. Just goes to show how insane these lunatics are - they can't even do things according to the belief system they are claiming to be part of. Total twats!

Bush and company didn't want them to come to trial because the info would come out on how they got the confessions. And then, as the CIA interrogators are getting prosecuted, the news would come out on who approved it. Then the news would come out that Cheney/Bush approved torture before they changed the law to approve it. You know the law, when it is ok to torture as long as they don't die. Although I am pretty sure they screwed up on that too. Then maybe we can finally prosecute Cheney and Bush.
