Experts worry fights may be next wave

(Newser) – Fistfights at tea party rallies over the weekend have some analysts worried that the violent backlash may be only just beginning. In Fort Lauderdale, anti-tea party activists chanting "Amnesty yes, racists no!" clashed with tea party protesters who entered their protest zone. The group had emailed members calling for "a militant confrontation" with "tea-baggers," the Christian Science Monitor reports.

Some activists have begun taking weapons to rallies, showing "a stronger degree of alienation and threat," noted one expert in social movements. Fights around tea parties aren't always between left and right, however. In Phoenix scuffles broke out when activists tried to prevent a group of neo-Nazis brandishing a swastika flag and a portrait of Adolf Hitler from joining an anti-immigration rally.

The part I do find funny is where the Republicans all think (mistakenly) that all on the left are pacifist and turn the other cheek as they preach about "watering the tree of liberty"... This is exacly what the Right has pushed for ad indeed they have seen nothing yet. If a Conservative expresses his political view, he is called an idiot. A Liberal expressing his political views is expressing his right to Freedom of Speech. Liberals can't defend their positions so they seek to shut down others from expressing theirs. BTW, the neo-Nazis have nothing to do with the Tea Party movement and should not have been included in this article, unless the author was trying to make a not-so-subtle connection.

Also, at least the teabaggers mentioned tried to stop the neo-Nazis from demonstrating along with them; I think that gives them some credit, which they will no doubt tarnish within the next few days by doing something incredibly stupid.

I meant physical violence. Yelling about something isn't a crime, hitting someone is. So ANYONE who brings weapons to a legal assembly and uses them (or any gathering for that matter) should be left wholly to blame. We should not make excuses for violence even if we don't agree with their political leanings.

I agree....my opinion is that when you immigrate to the United States...you should learn English...and your learning English should not be at the expense of the American Tax Payer....I see too many Spanish families teaching their kids Spanish first and the expect the school system to teach them English....this takes funds away from other needs that are just as important,if not more, than English as a second language class.....Immigrants should come through the correct channels and all illegals should step to the back of the line where they started from...sorry...there are too many wanting to come here legally and these illegals are in their way.....Most of the original colonists came over as indentured servants....so there was a legal system of immigration in those days...so don't use the original colony system as an excuse for illegals today...

Two of my dearest friends made that same point about English....sisters, they are...and republicans. And when I reminded them their parents and grandparents who came here from Ecuador and still live here and still don't speak English very well (parents) or not at all (grandparents) and that they, the sisters, spoke so little Spanish because they learned English in public school and it became their primary language, and that all of them could barely communicate....both sisters go dead silent and then one says, "Well. That's not the same thing." I swear I love 'em for all the good things about them and dammit, there are some good things...but their political leanings just make me shake my head in wonder of it all....AND they're chrisitans, too.....love thy neighbor...:::sigh:::.....
