Winfrey tells fans 25 seasons the 'perfect number' to end on

(Newser) – Oprah Winfrey fought back tears today as she officially announced the end of her show, telling the audience the decision came from the heart. “You may hear speculation in the press about why I am making this decision,” she said. “Here is the real reason: I love this show. … I love it enough to know when it’s time to say goodbye.”

It’s not that she’s sick of the show—“It still means as much to me to spend an hour with you as it did back in 1986,” she said. But “25 years feels right in my bones and feels right in my spirit. It’s the perfect number.” She also asked viewers to keep watching during the 18 months she has left on the air.

(AP) - Oprah Winfrey will end her talk show in 2011 after 25 years. She will provide more details during tomorrow's show, says her Harpo Productions. Winfrey started her broadcasting career in Nashville and Baltimore before relocating to Chicago in 1984 to host WLS-TV's morning talk show AM Chicago. It became The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1985 and has ruled the airwaves since. More»

(NEWSER) - We all know the Oprah Winfrey Network is struggling with ratings —but apparently the situation is so bad that Winfrey herself felt the need to tweet a request for viewers on Sunday night, as the Grammys were airing. "Every 1 who can please turn to OWN especially if u have a Nielsen box," she tweeted just before Oprah's Next Chapter aired.
