Lincoln Swings to Center of Health Debate

Dems come calling as GOP eyes her seat in 2010

Share

(Newser) – With all eyes on her last night, Blanche Lincoln cast the deciding vote to push health reform forward—and simultaneously swung herself soundly into the epicenter of the brouhaha. By warning fellow Dems she won't support a final bill with a public option, she guaranteed their attention. But in casting the telling 60th vote, Lincoln, Arkansas' conservative senior senator, left herself wide open to Republicans eyeing her seat in 2010.

Lincoln claims political concerns are not foremost in her mind, but rather that she's "thinking about the 450,000 Arkansans who have no health insurance." She recently became chair of the Agriculture Committee, a post that could be beneficial for her rural state, but she's already weathered a $3 million ad campaign aimed at her. Democrats counter that Arkansans, who have less health coverage on average than other Americans, will reward her support of a bill.

She "won't support a bill that contains a public option"??? Then why did she vote yes? If it wasn't a vote to serve her state, why did she vote yes? If the public option won't help the thousands in Arkansas with no insurance at all, why does she reject it? One answer: bought and paid for. Whore. Reply

She voted "yes" to begin debate; the bill itself has not been voted on yet.

if these blue dogs don't support the bill they should be striped of all their seats and chairmanships. They need to remember who brought them to the tables. And Liebfreak should be sent home to CT where he can come out of the clothe and work for the insurance cos.

@NE - I have plenty enough moral outrage to sustain me thru the entire health care legislation process. Wait and see.
