'Going Rogue' phenomenon may foreshadow something bigger

(Newser) – Just 5 days into her book tour, first-time author Sarah Palin is attracting crowds so huge and adoring that they're feeding speculation about her political future. The philosophy that moved one fan to call her "the female Ronald Reagan" is nothing new, experts tell Erika Bolstad of the Anchorage Daily News, "but Palin seems to have seized on something timely by putting her brand on common-sense conservatism."

"I'm there for her," said a fan at a signing who had to be reminded that Palin isn't actually running for office at the moment. "She can see where this country needs to go." Distrust of big government and liberal elites are notes that resonate in the carefully selected communities where Palin is flogging Going Rogue, Bolstad notes. "That populism that she's tapped into, it's partly a politics of resentment," says a professor of politics. "She's very much somebody who bristles with all sorts of resentments."

DLY, you might actually want to read the Economic Stimulus Bill signed by President Obama. It includes things like; $1.5 billion for homelessness prevention and $87 billion for Medicaid. There is $20 billion for food stamp benefits; $4 billion for state and local law enforcement agencies; and $4 billion to help train unemployed workers. The National Institutes of Health has $10 billion in the final bill, with $8.2 billion at the discretion of the director. Someone in your family attending college? Individuals making less than $80,000 or families making less than $160,000 are eligible for up to $2,500 in tax credits for college tuition with 40 percent ($1,000) of the credit being refundable. Estimated cost: $13.9 billion over 10 years. And Pell grants will increase to a maximum of $5,350 per student in 2009-2010 year. For the first time, college-related book and computer purchases are eligible for an income tax write-off. Almost anyone who buys a new car in 2009 will be able to deduct the sales tax from income tax. Estimated cost is $1.7 billion. A first-time homebuyer (anyone who has not owned a home in the past three years) who purchases a home this calendar year gets an $8,000 tax credit. Unlike a 2008 measure ($7,500), this one does not have to be repaid. Like most of the tax cuts, this one phases out for individuals making more than $75,000 or for those making $150,000 jointly. Estimated cost: $6.63 billion. A refundable tax credit of up to $400 per individual and $800 for couples in 2009 and 2010. Like prior income tax rebates, this one is phased out for individuals with adjusted incomes of over $75,000 and couples with incomes over $150,000. Almost $54 billion for states, for education-related budget deficit reduction and school modernization. Infrastructure projects include $27.5 billion for highway projects, $8.4 billion for public transportation and $9.3 billion for Amtrak and high-speed rail service. I could go on but this post is long enough. Notice that there are no private bankers listed here. That program is something else entirely and is most definitely NOT part of the economic stimulus.

The video of the turkeys was not her fault - the photographer moved to include their beheading. He then put it on You Tube - and also other places - perhaps making a few bucks out of the deal. Read the Book. She left Borders at 9 PM - the store closed. The photographer of her Newsweek picture sold the picture ILLEGALLY - do some research. Her book is loaded with her views on issues facing all Americans so it is very positive. It reads quickly - very personal tone - not an academic tome - enjoyable. She tells it like it is and some call it whining. Oh well. Those out against her will continue with the party line barbs. Those who enjoy thinking critically, will read her book and applaud her message. She continues to call McCain a war hero worthy of respect. I don't think so since it was his team which sandbagged her. Reply

What are Palins policy statements as to how she would handle all the garbage left behind by Bush when he left office? I havent seen one suggestion that Palin has even put forth as how to deal with the crisis on Wall Street, the unemployment figures, declining manufacturing base of this country or any solutions to the 2 wars that Bush got us into. How stupid is the common man....from my view, very stupid! Why do you want somebody as stupid as Sarah Palin to be in office? She has no background in fiscal policies or understanding economics and she failed miserably in her two prime time interviews. What kind of hard working American blames everyone else for their failures? The Palinistas kind of common folk. At what point is it Palins fault for being a lightweight retard?
