(AP) – The Iranian government approved a plan today to build 10 industrial scale uranium enrichment facilities, a dramatic expansion of the program in defiance of UN demands it halt enrichment. The decision comes only days after the UN nuclear watchdog agency censured Iran over its program and demanded it halt the construction of a newly revealed enrichment facility.

Iranian state news agency IRNA says the government ordered the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran to begin construction of five uranium enrichment sites that have already been studied and propose five other sites for future construction. The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting headed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad this evening, IRNA said.

Good you Iran. Look how a nation abides by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. It's too bad that's a foreign concept to Americans and Israel. Those calling for war really have no idea of their hippocracy. I hope Iran doesn't back out of the NNPT, as that would wrongly justify an attack from Israel, but they are well within their right to do so since America and the UN have not been abiding by their own treaty and in fact have violated very important parts of the treaty, ultimately, making it null and void. How could the press have never pointed out that Saddam had to pretend to have WMDs so that Iran would not invade and crush him? Press didn't see it, they were more interested in matching the first gulf war ratings and getting phony war zone head shots for their resumes. Now the press does so little front line reporting in the two war zones that we really don't know what is going on.

Iran is not smart enough to possess nuclear weapons. (SOURCE: Every Iranian public statement for the last 40 years). Besides, it's our national policy that we won't allow them to have nuclear weapons. That's not my opinion, that's our stated national policy. All I know from the high-stakes poker games I play in, is that when you start backing down over and over, opponents' attenae picks up on this and you keep getting run over from that point on. So guess what I see when I look at the Iran situation? But let's turn the question around: if these clowns get nuclear weapons and attack Israel, is there SOME POINT where you, and others like you, are going to be in favor of doing something, or do we just keep on cowering and doing nothing? Because our current position is weak/passive. That's a poker term for the player who gets bluffed out a lot and sits there shaking in his booties and folding every time he gets raised. And you ask, what would I do? Starting tomorrow morning, when these weasels tried to do an international monetary transaction, they'd find that all their accounts have been frozen. That's where I'd start, and there would be a lot more stuff like that forthcoming. In othe words, the free ride would be over. There's a poker term for this. It's called re-raising.

First, thanks-- I won my bet. Second, there are plenty of historical situations that don't respond well to a poker analogy. The Cuban Missille Crisis springs to mind. (Though the poker strategy actually worked-- move in all your chips and the other side will likely fold-- there was too much on the line to be doing this. You can't put the whole world on the line, even if you are a 2-to1 favorite, is another way of putting it.) I wouldn't say that here we are without poker moves. We're not putting enough pressure on them, clearly. There are always things going on behind the scenes-- business deals, banking, etc- about which we can say, "That's over now". Good poker players, as with good NFL teams, and numerous other analogies, are always moving forward in some fashion, moving down the field, constantly pressuring the other guys and keeping them back on their heels. It's the OTHER guys who are on the defensive, worried about what we're going to do and how to respond to it. There are aspects of this kind of pressure we are not using. Right now, we're the ones always on the defensive. This doesn't mean we have to drop an atomic bomb on them, it means we have to keep pressing and pressuring. I don't get any sense, from their reaction, that this is happening. My read is that there is a lot of bluffing going on on their part. We need to put pressure on them to find out. Again, it's not about blowing them up. They're under certain pressures. They may be scared to death their internal rebellion people might have more going on than they think. Something scares them; is it lack of food and jobs that could lead to an uprising, or something; we have to find out what it is and keep the pressure on. And by that, I don't mean a further series of "stern rebukes". Something real has to happen, even if it's something that sounds scary. The alternative is they get the bomb, and our stated national policy is we don't let them get the bomb. You can't have it both ways.
