Lawyer: Knox Not 'Amanda the Ripper'

Mom says Sollecito's lawyer described 'real Amanda'

(Newser) – Amanda Knox isn’t the vicious killer prosecutors described, but instead a naïve, rambunctious, kindhearted girl, kind of like the French movie character Amelie, defense attorney Giulia Bongiorno told the court today. Bongiorno is actually Raffaele Sollecito’s attorney, but says she felt she had to defend Knox to defend him. “She is spontaneous, immediate, and imprudent, someone who does cartwheels in the police station,” Bongiorno said. “She is not Amanda the Ripper, she is Amelie of Seattle.”

She also brought up Knox’s allegations that she was hit in the head by police and denied a lawyer. Police say she hit herself. “I don’t like the idea of a person who hits herself in the head as she is being questioned without a lawyer,” Bongiorno said, adding sarcastically, “At least let her hit herself in the head in front of me.” Knox’s mother said the lawyer had “described the real Amanda. She is indeed naïve, spontaneous, all the words Bongiorno used.”
