Big Hurt's Walk-Off Hurts Yanks Big

New York's 7-game streak halted 2-1 on eve of Sox showdown

(Newser) – A pitchers' duel between A.J. Burnett and rookie Ian Kennedy set the stage for Frank "Big Hurt" Thomas' walk-off single in the ninth inning, snapping a seven-game Yankee romp. Thomas had both of Toronto's RBIs. Burnett threw eight stellar frames, the only blemish a solo shot to Johnny Damon.

During the sixth, Damon bizarrely received a $20 bill from a fan to whom he had handed a caught fly ball. The amiable outfielder gave the money to a nearby child. The Yankees will now visit Boston and attempt to narrow the five-game gap between them in a series in which ex-Red Sock Roger Clemens will start the final game.
