Last Twilight Film Will Likely Split in 2

Summit considers splitting Breaking Dawn into two films, a la Harry

(Newser) – The Twilight vampires have followed Harry Potter and company into the world of hugely successful films—and the last installment could take a cue from the boy wizard. Summit wants to split the final novel, Breaking Dawn, into two pictures just like Warner Brothers did with Harry. There are a few hurdles, however, not the least of which is how much it will cost—Variety runs down a few:

  • Will New Moon director Chris Weitz agree to it? The back-to-back shooting schedule is tough, and he has said he's determined to direct non-Twilight film The Gardener next.
  • The cast is currently only locked for four films, and a fifth would mean big raises for all key members—possibly in the eight-figure range for the three principals.
  • Summit will have to reopen negotiations and get author Stephenie Meyer's approval before splitting the book.

Here's why: because the second half of the last book is so ridiculous that they want to get another profitable movie out of the series before they have to film the scene where Edward rips Bella's uterus open with his teeth.
