If she had said nothing and let the tabloids say it for her, some people here commenting along the lines of "big deal, who cares, we don't need to know," etc. would be commenting on how she was a coward for not saying it herself. As for the bullshit about how can she be lesbian after being married X number of times and having children, that is just ignorance. Many of the libs here make me proud of them for their acceptance (not *tolerance*, but *acceptance* and there is a difference) of homosexuality, but even with that acceptance, you cannot know how hard it is to overcome the stigma created by society, especially for gays from older generations. When I was growing up, queer meant pedophile. That kind of culture in your upbringing can make it hard to accept your homosexuality, even for lesbians despite the queer-is-pedophile tag being directed mostly at gay men. I sincerely regret that I did not accept my homosexuality in my teens, more than you can ever know. I had to overcome my religious upbringing and I had to overcome the fear of being stigmatized and stereotyped. I was an active homosexual by my early to mid-twenties, but I hid that from friends, family and co-workers until my early to mid-thirties. I moved away to the "big city" & when I came home to visit, I told my friends of sexual escapades with men rather than women. I had to consider whether it was going to affect my career, etc. As the years have passed, it has become less and less of a big deal for gays, thanks to people like the liberals here at newser, but unfortunately, the fact remains that it still can impact a homosexual's life negatively in so many ways to come out of the closet. Sadly, many older homosexuals never, ever overcome their fears and will stay married or continue to date the opposite sex for their entire lives. Oh yeah....being homosexual does not mean we are infertile or sterile, so yes, we can and do have children, duh. And if some of us are "in your face" about being queer and that bothers you, just know it's not only about making our presence known; it is also about how goddamned good it feels to be out that we just can't help ourselves, even at the risk of our lives. And we are risking our lives whether you can understand/accept that or not.

3 thumbs down for me already on my post?!! If you read other people's post here, my post is in the majority of how people here are feeling about her coming out and I'll say it once more it's ALL about her 15 minutes of fame and noting else, so proceed with the thumbs down! It's not about her coming out and helping the gay causes with celebs. coming out of the closet, its about, once again her, well... now it's down to about her 11 minutes of fame!
