“Hollywood conservative” might sound like an oxymoron, but there are some, and they’re calling on the Academy to take back Al Gore’s Oscar for An Inconvenient Truth in light of the “Climategate” e-mails. Roger Simon and Lionel Chetwynd, both Academy members and unabashed right-wingers, say the emails, in which British academics appear to fudge climate change data, debunk an already “fictionally done film.”

They made their call in a video on PajamasTV.com, part of Simon’s conservative Pajamas Media network, which has been feverishly collecting info on the emails. The LA Times calls their demand “hopeless,” and Simon admits he’s never heard of an Oscar being taken back before. But Chetwynd says the Academy “has a real duty here to protect the honesty, the bona fides of the entire popular culture.” (More Al Gore stories.)
