Red Sox Bury Yankees 10-1

Posted Sep 16, 07 6:32 AM CDT in Sports

(Newser) – Josh Beckett's record is now a Major League Baseball-best 19-6 after pitching seven innings of one-run baseball last night to add to Boston's lead in the American League East. Fellow Cy Young hopeful Chien-Ming Wang gave up five runs to the Sox and knocked Kevin Youkilis out of the game with a fastball to the wrist, reports the New York Times.

Beckett later hit Jason Giambi in the elbow, and Boston's Eric Hinske steamrolled Jorge Posada at the plate, but tempers failed to flare in the rivals' dugouts. Of Beckett's retaliatory hit on him, Giambi said: “I respect it." Despite Posada needing precautionary CT scans, Yankees manager Joe Torre admitted that “Hinske was clean.”
